Press Release: PALM Beer Launches in Boston
Ridgefield, CT (Nov 2, 2009) PALM, brewed by Belgium’s largest independent brewer, made its U.S. debut in New York City in November 2007 and it’s swiftly making its way around the Northeast with Boston as its latest launch city. PALM will be distributed by Horizon Beverage.
“PALM beer is a terrific addition to Horizon and we are excited to have it and its diverse sister beer brands in our portfolio,” says Bob Pingeton, Malt Beverage Director for Horizon Beverage. “PALM Breweries is a truly authentic Belgian brewer and they’re the only brewery in the world to use all four types of fermentation – top, bottom, mixed and spontaneous.”
Like PALM Breweries, Horizon Beverage has been a family owned operation passed on through generations. Horizon was founded shortly after the repeal of Prohibition in 1933 by Morris Sims in a garage in downtown Brockton, MA. Today, Horizon’s fourth generation owners Doug Epstein, Michael Epstein, Ben Rubenstein and Sam Rubenstein head up the company’s efforts to build a portfolio of world-class beer, wine and spirits brands, covering five New England states.
Bar owners and their clientele are embracing PALM and the “drinkability” of the flavorful Belgian ale. Modern Brewery Age gave the ale its highest taste ranking and praised its “delicious maltiness, balanced with fruity characteristics of the yeast.”
PALM is imported by Latis, a new specialty beer company founded by beer industry veterans David van Wees and Anthony Giardina. Prior to joining forces to create Latis, van Wees and Giardina held various senior commercial roles at InBev in the U.S. and around the globe directing import brands including Stella Artois.
PALM is available in New York, San Diego, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Philadelphia, New Jersey, Orange County (CA), Washington, D.C. and now Boston. PALM Breweries is still owned by the family holding of Jan Toye, a passionate brewer, whose lineage is connected to the start of the brewery in 1747 in the province of Brabant in Belgium. Today, the PALM Breweries portfolio boasts a host of specialty brands, including its flagship PALM, Belgium’s best selling Belgian Ale, Estaminet Premium Pils and a range of Abbey Beers from SteenBrugge.
About Latis:
A collective 25 years of experience in the U.S. and global markets leading brands like Rolling Rock, Labatt Blue, Beck’s, Bass, Stella Artois and Hoegaarden drove van Wees and Giardina to create a company that mirrored their passion for developing premium beer brands. And so the idea for Latis was born and given life in Connecticut’s diners and well-equipped, free wireless public libraries. At the heart of Latis is a mission to build a portfolio of authentic, craft beers from independent brewers with rich history, traditions and pride. Latis is named after the Celtic goddess of beer and water. The company is headquartered in Ridgefield, CT. For more information www.latisimports.com or www.palmbreweries.com.
